Decide where AI is useful before buying more of it

AI Consulting Begin with the work, not the feature
AI features now appear in software for writing, meetings, customer service, accounting, design, and nearly every other business function. Some are useful. Others duplicate tools you already have, add risk, or create more review work than they save.
The first question should be what needs to improve, not which AI product to purchase.
What consulting can include
- Workflow assessment. We identify repetitive work, bottlenecks, judgment calls, sensitive information, and the points where a person still needs control.
- Tool evaluation. We compare products against the actual requirement, including price, data handling, integrations, limitations, and the work needed to operate them.
- Policies and boundaries. Staff need clear guidance about approved tools, confidential information, review responsibilities, and which decisions should not be delegated.
- Training. We help teams use selected tools effectively, verify outputs, and recognize the situations where the tool is likely to fail.
- Implementation planning. If the opportunity requires an integration, custom software, or an AI agent, we define a focused first step and how its usefulness will be evaluated.
Cases where AI may not fit
A deterministic rule, a better form, a standard automation, or a change in process may be more dependable than a model. Work involving sensitive decisions, uncertain source material, or consequences that cannot be easily reversed needs stronger review and may not be suitable at all.
Recommending a simpler answer is part of the consulting work.
Experience with technology change
MIS has advised businesses on web technology since 1995. The current AI shift is significant, but the evaluation still comes down to cost, usefulness, risk, maintainability, and whether the people responsible can operate what is introduced.
