ExpressionEngine
An actively maintained CMS that MIS no longer specializes in, particularly when older installations need substantial work.
ExpressionEngine is still maintained. MIS no longer builds or provides ongoing support for it, and we usually migrate older installations.
A capable CMS we no longer specialize in
ExpressionEngine remains actively maintained, and current installations receive bug fixes and security updates. It is a capable content management system with a long history and a professional user base.
MIS built on ExpressionEngine for years, including You Can Lead Coaching. We no longer specialize in it. That is a decision about our current practice, not a claim against the platform.
Where older installations become difficult
Many ExpressionEngine calls we receive involve sites built on releases that are no longer supported. The original developer may be unavailable, custom add-ons may depend on old PHP versions, and years of undocumented decisions can make a routine change expensive.
Those are risks attached to an ageing installation, not to every current ExpressionEngine site.
ExpressionEngine also places hosting, PHP compatibility, database upgrades, add-ons, and security maintenance in the owner’s hands. That can be perfectly reasonable for an organization with the right technical support. It is more responsibility than most of our small-business clients want.
When staying makes sense
If the site is current, secure, performing well, and supported by an ExpressionEngine developer, there is no reason to migrate simply because MIS uses different tools today. An upgrade within ExpressionEngine may be the least disruptive choice.
Migration becomes more attractive when the installation is several major versions behind, important add-ons are unsupported, or the website itself needs a full redesign.
What MIS recommends
Webflow for a site you want to maintain yourself, with no server to look after.
A custom static build where performance and control matter most. See website development.
When we migrate an older installation, we carry the content forward, preserve or redirect established URLs, and verify the rebuilt site before launch. If staying on ExpressionEngine is the better answer, we will recommend finding a current ExpressionEngine specialist instead.
What happens next
If your ExpressionEngine site is on an older release or has become difficult to maintain, we can assess whether an upgrade or migration makes more sense.
