National Brain Injury Institute
A specialist brain-injury site with separate paths for patients who need clarity and professionals who need clinical depth.
The National Brain Injury Institute diagnoses and treats traumatic brain injury under the direction of Dr. Huma Haider, a TBI specialist and published contributor to the Handbook of Medical Aspects of Disability and Rehabilitation for Life Care Planning.
Two readers with opposite needs
A patient or family member may be exhausted and, because of the injury itself, may find reading, concentration, or screens difficult. A physician, attorney, or life care planner making a referral needs clinical specifics quickly and is not helped by broad simplification.
Writing for an imaginary average between those readers would serve neither. We separated the patient and referral routes early, then wrote each in the register its reader needs.
The service list is the clinical evidence
The range of assessments and therapies is important evidence of the practice’s depth: oculomotor and vestibular therapy, diffusion tensor imaging, comprehensive TBI evaluation, cognitive functional capacity evaluation, neuropsychological assessment, neurocognitive rehabilitation, life care plans, and psychotherapy.
Those terms mean a great deal to a referrer and very little to many patients. Each service therefore keeps its clinical name while providing a plain explanation beside it.
Accessibility is not a checkbox here
Accessibility shaped the work from the beginning. Clear type, generous spacing, predictable navigation, and a screening questionnaire with limited demands on working memory are not finishing touches on a brain-injury site. They are part of whether the site succeeds.
The site was built in Webflow so the practice can maintain its clinical information without compromising the structure created for its readers.
