Weebly Cloud
A platform we used successfully for years but no longer choose for new websites.
We no longer build on Weebly Cloud. Existing sites should be evaluated by account location, service terms, and business needs rather than an assumed universal shutdown.
We built a lot of sites on Weebly Cloud
Weebly Cloud is the reseller platform Weebly offered to agencies: the same underlying builder, with account management and billing handled on the client’s behalf. For years it was a good answer for small businesses because it was straightforward to edit, reliable, and inexpensive. We built and maintained many client sites on it, including several still running today.
Square acquired Weebly in 2018 and has increasingly focused its commerce work on Square Online. Weebly still operates, and its current US support guidance says there are no plans to discontinue the site builder. That guidance addresses the builder generally, so the terms of an agency’s Weebly Cloud account still need to be checked. Weebly also encourages new sites to use Square Online for its more current features.
Why we are moving clients off it
Its status depends on where the account is based. Weebly has announced a 2026 winddown in 67 countries. Separately, its current US guidance says there are no plans to discontinue the website builder. We should not treat the international announcement as a universal US shutdown.
The tools have fallen behind newer options. Design, content management, integrations, and performance controls are more limited than what we can offer on current platforms.
A planned move is easier than a forced one. We went through a platform shutdown with Adobe Business Catalyst. Preserving URLs, content, and search visibility is much easier when the work happens on the client’s schedule.
Where it still makes sense to wait
If your US Weebly Cloud site is stable and still meets the business’s needs, there may not be an immediate reason to rebuild it. The right timing depends on how important the site is, what it needs to do next, and which terms apply to the account.
We raise the issue now so the decision can be deliberate rather than reactive.
What we recommend instead
Square Online is the natural move if you use Square at the counter. It is effectively where Weebly went.
Webflow if you want to keep editing your own site with far more design control.
A custom static build if speed, control, and low maintenance are the priorities. See website development.
Migrating off Weebly Cloud
A migration should preserve the useful parts of the existing site, including its content, URLs, and search history, while improving the parts that justify the move. Our Weebly-to-Webflow migration guide explains how we approach that work.
